Richard Mosse came to international attention with his series of large-scale photographs entitled Infra, detailing the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These striking images, which depicted native people and luscious natural landscapes, were even more compelling due to their psychedelic, almost lurid, colors. Mosse created this unexpected palette by using an obsolete infrared surveillance film, originally intended for the purpose of carrying out aerial vegetation surveys and identifying camouflaged targets within military contexts.
